About Kundali Mitraकुण्डली मित्र का परिचय

A kundali (birth chart, or janma patrika) is simply a photograph of the sky at the moment you were born, taken from the place you were born. The Sun, the Moon and the planets were each standing somewhere among the stars at that instant — the kundali records exactly where.

The sky is divided into twelve equal parts called rashis (Aries/Mesha to Pisces/Meena). One of them was rising on the eastern horizon at your birth — that is your lagna, the "face" of your chart, which shapes your body, temperament and the direction of your life. The chart is then read as twelve houses — twelve areas of life: yourself, wealth, siblings, home, children, health, marriage, longevity, fortune, career, gains and liberation. Where each planet sits among these houses is what a jyotishi reads.

From the Moon's position, the system also fixes the timetable of your life — the dashas, planetary chapters with exact dates. That is why a kundali can speak not only about "what" but also about "when".

Long before telescopes, the rishis divided the Moon's monthly path through the stars into 27 lunar mansions — the nakshatras — from Ashwini to Revati. The Moon rests in one nakshatra each day, and the nakshatra it occupied at your birth is your janma nakshatra, your birth star.

Each nakshatra has its own presiding deity, symbol, animal and temperament — Rohini the ox-cart of Brahma, Pushya the nourishing udder blessed by Brihaspati, Mula the root star of endings and beginnings. Your birth star colours your instincts more intimately than your rashi: it names the flavour of your mind.
